Recipe Request: Cookie Dough Truffles

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

I can’t remember how long ago I started making these truffles at Christmastime, but ever since I did, they’ve been a hit. I originally got the recipe from Taste of Home magazine. My Aunt Jane requests them every year, and every year I happily go home with an empty platter tray! A few more people [...]

Recipe Request: Greek Lemon Rice Soup

Wednesday, December 30th, 2009

We live in a melting pot of cultures. The variety of restaurants we have is truly amazing, if you consider we’re in Indiana… you know, the place most people consider to be one giant flat corn field. Nevermind the fact that our area is considered to be part of “Chicagoland.”
Anyway, here in northwest Indiana, we’re [...]

Recipe: White Chicken Chili

Tuesday, December 15th, 2009

I’m always on the look-out for recipes that are not only “cheap and cheerful,” but also ones that can be made in large quantities just as easily. Of course, I’d like them to be healthy, too!
Several years ago, someone made this for us and it has become a family favorite. My husband loves this white [...]

Pitas: a Gluten-Free Recipe, as requested

Wednesday, November 19th, 2008

I have no authority to turn this blog into a gluten-free recipe site, but someday I may just be able to offer some help. I recently posted about our “tortillas,” which are still saving us a bundle of cash.
I’ve priced special gluten-free breads, and the range from $6 to $8 a piece, and they’re small [...]

WFMW: Pancakes with a Twist

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

We eat “breakfast for dinner” a lot around here. Omelettes and pancakes are among our favorites. Omelettes offer a lot of variety, but when you have a kid that’s allergic to dairy, the pancakes can be a bit tricky.
Until now!
A few weeks ago, I made pancakes and ingenuity struck me. Why not use orange juice [...]

“Wholesome” Holes

Thursday, September 11th, 2008

Nate had some rare time off this morning, so I made donut holes for the whole gang.
Don’t act all surprised… It was super easy. They turned out to be delicious, too. Not all that healthy really, but yummy in moderation. I’ll post the recipe below.
Connor was the first to try one and he immediately loved [...]

Cookies! Yum…

Thursday, September 4th, 2008

We had a family reunion of sorts to go to last weekend. I made these Mosnter Cookies and certain family members wanted the recipe, so here it is… just for you.
Monster Cookies

1/2 cup shortening or dairy-free margarine
1 cup peanut butter
2 cups brown sugar
3 eggs
1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
4-1/2 cups rolled oats

WFMW: Five Ingredients or Less

Tuesday, July 1st, 2008

This week’s Works-For-Me Wednesday is a themed edition: Five Ingredients Or Less!  Shannon says, “Offer up your simplest recipes and link back up here on Wednesday.” I thought about stealing my sister-in-law’s chicken parmesean recipe – or her one for enchiladas – and putting it up here, but she should get the credit. Maybe she’ll post one [...]

Easy cookies

Wednesday, October 10th, 2007

My kids have been on this baking kick lately – perhaps because we’ve been cooped up for a week and a half? Anyway, earlier today, I found an easy recipe that simply allowed us to add our own extras. Great, huh? Here’s the recipe for anyone interested:

COLONIAL EASY COOKIES

1 c. sugar
1 c. butter
1 c. flour
1 tsp. [...]
