Tamela, We're doing that this week! Started yesterday. :) I found a song to use, so we're rolling with it. Yesterday we covered Genesis to Ecclesiastes! :)

Sherri, I pretty much had the same idea as you... letting him work at his own pace. If he finishes first grade by May, so be it. So what if he isn't even 5 yet? Isn't that just part of the beauty of homeschooling? I'll figure it out eventually. ;)

I remember when you went to kindergarten knowing how to read. They didn't want you bored going over things with the other kids that you already knew so they put you into first grade reading. The idea was to keep you interested in reading and not put a damper on your craving for learning. I'm not surprised that he is so eager to learn, the kid has been interested in spelling anything and everything he can since he was three.
He's just going to be a smart kid, it runs in the family. ;)

The beauty of homeschooling is flexibility. Phooey on the dumb lessons plans (yes, for me, lesson planning is dumb because my days NEVER ever go even close according to plan.) My kids know what the minimum is they are supposed to do everyday. They also know they are free to do more. The whole point of homeschooling is learning to love learning, not sticking to those dumb lesson plans....=-D Let him go nuts! Then if his interest starts to wane, let him take a break for as long as he wants. He'll come back again with a vengeance if you don't push him.
