Why?

We’re often asked why we homeschool. I generally stick with telling reasons that I LOVE it, instead of bashing other options. I’m a product of public schools, and they have their place.

Some of my reasons include:

  • we can focus on subjects not offered in public school, like Bible
  • we can make up our own subjects, like “service” and “character qualities” (and if I really wanted to, “nap time” and “chores!”) ;)
  • the flexibility in scheduling just WORKS for our family. If my kids had to be in bed by 8:30 each evening to be ready for school the next morning, 5 days a week, they’d rarely see their dad. I’m glad my husband is around to help guide them in life!
  • my kids are allowed to work at their own pace. Each of my boys have finished kindergarten in three months or less! Why slow them down and force them to be bored for 6 more months?
  • the fact that homeschooling helps solidify us as a family, instead of dividing us for hours each day
  • I just plain like my kids. They’re fun to be around.

There’s a million more reasons, some deeper, some not so much…

There’s an interesting dialogue going on over at Pioneer Woman’s blog about homeschooling. The post is interesting, but the comments at the end are just as much! Let me know your thoughts!

I am really glad to know this is working for you. I wish I would have done something like that but at the time I didn’t know it was an option. Probably better for you. I think Chad would have really benefitted from one on one though (if my patience would have held out).
