Birthday Boldness
My boy Andy is getting to be an old man. He turned 7 yesterday!
As our firstborn, he’s mature for his age. He takes responsibility in stride and rarely complains about his role as the example setter.
As I tucked him into bed on Wednesday night, I kissed him and then hugged his long, lanky body. Then I said, “Enjoy your last night of sleep as a 6-year-old.”
He smiled. I said, “I remember telling my Mom I wanted to stay 6 forever, because I thought it was so much fun being 6.”
He smiled back and agreed. “It was a lot of fun.”
“Will you like being 7?”
Always intelligent, he answered, “I don’t know. I’ve never been 7 before!”
I started to walk out of the room when he offered this confession:
“Hey Mom, remember that time, when I was still 6, that we had that bag of raisin bran in here that got everywhere?”
Unfortunately, I remembered it all too well.
“Well, Brady put one of the raisins in his nose, and then he couldn’t get it out… Then he DID get it out, and then he ate it!”
Um, ew, gross…. I tried not to gag or freak out.
I’m not sure why he was suddenly so bold. Perhaps the statute of limitations expires on your birthday?!
