Too Old, Too Smart
Our town puts out a huge display of Christmas lights in the local park every year. You drive through it and look at an enormous quantity of lights.
Some of them are actually Christmas themed. Some are not.
Like an elephant, spraying water from its tusk. Or an Indian, shooting an arrow from a bow. Huh?!
They’re eclectic, at least.
Anyway, we look forward to them every year. Andy’s birthday is about 2 weeks before Christmas, so somehow, when he was younger, he assumed the lights were all for his birthday. (I may or may not have contributed to this misconception.)
Well, he’s about to turn 7.
Imagine my surprise when we drove past the park the other day and Brady saw the lights and said, “Look Andy! The lights are up!!’
“Yeah,” said Andy. “But they aren’t really for my birthday. Really, they’re Christmas lights for Jesus’ birthday.”
He wasn’t disappointed, just informative. Wanted to be sure his little brother got the facts right.
I’m glad he knows Christmas is really all about Jesus… but does he have to grow up so fast?!
