Not Forgetting
I’m as patriotic as they come. My favorite holiday is Independence Day… I love red, white and blue, the stars and stripes, a soldier’s salute. I’ve been known to cry at the presentation of the colors.
Memorial Day is always special, too. I come from a long line of soldiers and other “homeland servants.” I choose to never forget the sacrifices they’ve made for our freedoms.
Yesterday, we got to enjoy some of those freedoms. It’s not often that my husband actually gets a holiday off (seems pilots and criminals think alike: no days off on holidays.) This year was a rare treat!
We got to enjoy family, friends and food because of the freedoms we’re blessed to have. Here are two photos that best recap of our fun day:
Here our beautiful niece Erica entertains Brady (5),
Connor (3.5) and Evan (2) with water guns…
Or maybe they entertained her with their wild antics?
Our terrific nephew Quinn has a way with babies. Every one of our children has fallen asleep in his secure arms repeatedly. Late in the day, he asked, “Aunt Christa, does Ferris need a nap?” Within minutes, this was the scene. A few minutes later, they were both asleep on the chaise lounge. What a good guy!
We’re so blessed to have a wonderful family and the freedom to enjoy them all.

Oh, I sooo agree. You aren’t the only one who cries over patriotic things. My grandfather served in WWII as a bomber pilot and my uncle was in Vietnam. Not to mention I now have family who do their best to serve us, here in the U.S. Thanks, Nate and Mr. Wentz for all you do for us to keep us safe. Goodness, I’m tearing up.

As Christa said she comes from a long line of soldiers, great Grandpa Winters served in Europe during WWII, Grandpa Engle was in the Phillipenes in the mid to late 40’s, Uncle Jr was stationed state side in the mid 60’s, Uncle Joe served three tours in Vietnam, Uncle Levi served in Korea and Dad is a proud Vietnam Vet.
We are also proud of our son in law Nate and other friends in local law inforcement.

Even though the comments here are more than a week old I’ll say that my late father in law received a purple heart.
