“He that soweth discord…”
One Bible passage that I’ve always found very interesting is Proverbs chapter 6. In it, God reveals the “These six things doth the LORD hate: yea, seven are an abomination unto him” (verse 16).
The list is specific and thought provoking. The last part of the list, though, says the thing that is an abomination unto the Lord is “he that soweth discord among brethren.” God hates people who divide. I could write a whole dissertation, but I won’t. It’s Monday.
Instead, I’ll just say that, based on that list, God must hate snow, too.
Really.
See, I hate snow. It’s beautiful and all. It’s romantic and clean (until you let the dogs out.) But, like many things in life, it has its place: Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
If you ask me, we could do without it the other 363 days a year. It’s cold. It’s wet. Is there anything worse than being cold and wet? I don’t think so.
How does that mean God hates snow? Here’s why: My husband LOVES snow. This minor (yet major) difference between us is what soweth the discord in our marriage.
We agree on politics. On religion. On educating our children a certain way. On birth control issues. Even on baby names and paint choices. Just not on snow. It’s Discord City, baby.
My darling, otherwise perfect husband actually gets outside every winter and plays in the snow with my kids. There are snowballs and snowmen and snow angels. Not just from the kids, either.
Me? I make the hot chocolate for when they come back in.
So, you see, our marriage would be without flaws if in weren’t for that darn flaky white stuff falling from the sky each winter. We’d be rock solid. Instead, we tread on slippery, shaky ground, all because of snow.
That little discord sower. ![]()

Cracked me up! And that’s not really discord. It’s just individual preference. It would be discord if when it snows you make Nate sleep on the couch or bathtub. It would be discord if when it snows you throw heavy objects at his head. It is not discord cause you yearn to make them happy and comfortable when they come in with hot chocolate. Even tho they’re nuts and we both know it.
