“Wholesome” Holes
Nate had some rare time off this morning, so I made donut holes for the whole gang.
Don’t act all surprised… It was super easy. They turned out to be delicious, too. Not all that healthy really, but yummy in moderation. I’ll post the recipe below.
Connor was the first to try one and he immediately loved them in all their warm, sugary, carb-loaded goodness. He took one bite and said, “Mommy, dese are good!! And deys good for me, too, right?”
Silly boy tries.
EASY DONUT HOLES
- Tube of refrigerated biscuits
- Canola oil
- toppings of your choosing
- Open the can of biscuits and quarter each one. (Maybe I should have taken photos of the process, but the donuts were gone too quickly.)
- Prepare your toppings. Here’s the tricky part — the decision! I topped mine two ways. (1) powdered sugar and (2) cinnamon and sugar. You could also glaze them with a simple powdered sugar mixed with a tiny bit of water icing.
- Heat enough canola oil in a pan to be able to dunk your pieces of biscuit. You’re supposed to get it to about 350 degrees, but I just guessed.
- Place your biscuit quarters in to fry. Flip after about 7-8 seconds per side. Once you’ve done the second side, take them out with a slotted spoon. (You’ll want them to be light-medium brown. If they get too dark, them don’t taste as much like donuts.)
- Anyway, I sprinkled / rolled mine in the toppings just as I got them out of the oil. Then place them in a serving bowl and watch them disappear.
My husband raved over them. He liked one kind better and I liked the other, so I think they were both a hit. The kids loved both and devoured them within minutes!
The best part was the price / time. It took me about 10-15 minutes to make these, and I made two tubes of dough. The total cost was less than $4 for everything. So, less than $4 for 80 donut holes. Can’t beat that.
If you try making these, let me know what you think… especially if you make them differently!
PS– They’re also dairy free / casein free, which made them safe for my Brady! Enjoy.
