Labor Day

Just for fun, I thought I’d pull out this meme from Shannon at Rocks in My Dryer. (What can I say? That’s where all the fun happens.)  In honor of Labor Day, it’s about…well, labor.  And not the kind you get a day off for, either.

How long were your labors?

Andy, 17 hours.
Brady, 17 hours, 45 minutes
Connor, 12 hours-ish.
Evan, 7 hours.
Ferris, about 10 hours.

Evan has been in hyper-drive ever since.

How did you know you were in labor?

For four out of five: Those crazy pains that come all-to rhythmically until I look at my husband (or call him) and tell him I can’t do it (handle the labor) anymore. He’s got to take it (the baby) out.

I’m a wimp.

For Evan: I denied that I could be in labor, since it was about 10 weeks early when I fent into pre-term labor. She was born five days later.

Where did you deliver?

Andy, Brady and Connor were all born in water in our home. (Funny enough, they were all born in the dining room, too. We are Baptist, after all.)

Evan was born in a hospital in Chicago. She was so early that I received a special helicopter ride just to get there. I got to stay 8 days. She, unfortunately, got to stay 29.

Ferris was born in a luxurious birthing room at our local hospital, but it was again a waterbirth. (Maybe one of my kids will be the next Michael Phelps!) She’s been a gem ever since. Must have enjoyed all that pampering.

Drugs?

Nope. None at all. For any of them.

That doesn’t make me brave or anything. That just gives me license to squeeze my husband’s hand harder than those of you who were medicated. ;)

C-section?

Praise, God, no. I’m glad surgery has not been involved.

Who delivered?

My husband actually caught three of ours (Andy, Connor and Ferris). With Brady, I wouldn’t let go of his hand and he was afraid I was going to pass out, so our midwife friend caught him.

Evan, who still thinks she deserves special treatment, was delivered by an enormous team of doctors and nurses. I seriously lost count. (Or ran out of fingers.) The medical staff just magically came out of the woodwork when it was time to push.

If you want to play along with this meme, just cut and paste the questions into your own blog, and leave your link over at Rocks in My Dryer.  Leave me a comment here, too, so I know to look for it!

Thanks for sharing! I love hearing everyone’s labor stories. Thanks for the delivery without drugs comment as well. I always admire women who can make it without but your comment made me feel a little less wimpy =)

I didn’t get the meme done in time to link up at Shannon’s site but I did post it on my blog today if you feel like checking out my horror stories-I mean birth stories =)
