WFMW: Home Remedy Insect Repellant
This week my Works-for-Me Wednesday tip is pretty simple.
Our wonderful “Aunt Sandy” gave us this idea. Instead of spraying down your little ones with chemicals and ingredients you can’t pronounce, use Listerine!
Seriously. I poured some into a squirt bottle and I dowse my kids before they go outside to play.
Not only is it less scary to put on them (I figure it has to be a bit safer since you can put it in your mouth!), but it’s tons cheaper, too. One bottle goes a LONG way.
I use the original kind (you know, the golden yellow stuff), so I’m not sure if the other kinds work. Let me know if you try it though.
So, this summer my kids will have fewer mosquito bites and better breath, too. Works for me!

Wow, who would have guessed? I’ll have to give it a try, because it is hard to find mosquito repellants with only organic ingredients!

That’s so funny! It’s easier to spray than trying to get your kids to drink vinegar (mine like a few sips before they go outside). This will be much easier and smell so much better!

thanks for sharing, i’ve heard about it, but never knew anyone that actually tried it and says it works!

What a great idea! I think I counted and I have about 20 mosquito bites last night and that’s just from one night! Wish I would have known about this then. But thanks so much for this tip! I will definitely try this one!

This is the second time this summer I’ve heard this tip. I better start paying attention! : ) We just got home from vacation covered in mosquito bites. I’m going to try this next time we go out. Thank you!

Thats an awesome idea!

That’s a great idea - and I agree if we are told it’s good for our dental health, it can’t hurt!
Thanks!

I heard about this somewhere. Haven’t tried it yet, but certainly will. I also hear you can spray down your porch area and enjoy a mosquito free evening outdoors.

we’ll have to give this one a try - thanks!

Wow, I’ll have to tell my sister. She lives in AK and the mosquitos are out in full force right now! Thanks for the frugal insect repellant idea

Great tip! I just bought some OFF mosquito spray and haven’t used it ’cause all those chemicals make me nervous around my little ones.
Thanks again for posting such a great tip! I can’t wait to try it!

I haven’t heard of that before - I’ll have to give it a try. Thanks!

Interesting… I haven’t heard of this before.
Does it get sticky?
July 10th, 2008 at 10:08 am
Hi Ter,
Amazingly, NO, it doesn’t get sticky. I’ve used it on myself and I haven’t found it to be sticky at all. I haven’t read the ingredients recently, but I doubt it has sugar in it, since it’s a mouthwash. ??? Hope you find it works well.
thanks,
christa

Well since you are the second person to recommend that and since I’ve actually heard that before, maybe I’ll give that a try. I’ve tried everything else.
Thanks a bunch.
