I’m just curious here. I’ve been thinking a lot about space these days. We certainly don’t seem to have enough of it, but then again, I could live in Manhattan. My quaint house would be huge. ;) Thankfully, it’s summer, so our yard helps expand our non-existent playroom.
This post is for everyone. I need people to comment on the amount of space you have in your house per person. For those of you who are a bit math-challenged (like I am sometimes,) it’s like this:
Take the total number of square feet in your house and divide it by the total number of people living there. (For our purposes, we will not count pets… that would up my denominator by two more!)
Just for the record, my answer is 151.4 sq ft/person.
For all you “lurkers” out there who read my blog but never comment, now’s your chance! There’s no threat of controversy posed by your commenting. Please do so now! (And while you’re at it — just for fun — tell us where you’re from.)

Let’s see. I’m going to need my calculator for this. Do we count basements and closets and porches?
I guess I will ’cause we use them all. Although we don’t have a basement, just a crawl space and we never go down there. Soooo…drumroll please…I think we each have around 300 sq ft.
Cool.
Just for the record…I am Christa’s sister-in-law and she is simply a genius in making a small home work. Somehow, she shifts and moves and makes it all fit. And it’s doesn’t even look utilitarian! It’s actually a very pretty home!
She’s being nice. Her idea of non “utilitarian” is what I call cluttered.
I love you anyway, though, Heather.
ok, this was pretty easy math for me. There are three of us and our house is 3,000 sq. ft so we get 1,000 ft. each. Pretty ridiculous, isn’t it? I’d love to fill it with more little ones!!
Since you asked so nicely, I’ll de-lurk =) I’ve been reading since you were pregnant with your youngest-yikes! That’s a long time without commenting!
Anyway, our home has 984 sq ft for what will soon be 5 people. So 196.8 sq ft a person. Really not bad, all things considered. Guess I should quit complaning (we too have a non-existant playroom).
We also live in the Midwest (among the wide open spaces/horse and buggies etc) =)
Our modest house is 1200 sq. feet with 3 of us, 1 more will be added in August so I went ahead and divided by 4. So we have about 300 feet per person. Our old house was about 800 sq. feet.
We have lived here so long (30 years last month) that I think our feet have grown. If I remember correctly we were told we have 1400 sq feet (probably included the garage) so that would be divided by 2 = 700 sq feet per person.
