Unwelcome Visitor
I’m one of those strange people who actually likes to mow. I love it. I like the smell of fresh-cut grass and being able to see my progress so instantly. So, I was excited when it was warm enough and dry enough Tuesday to get to pull out the push mower and go to town on the lawn!
That is, I was excited briefly.
Until I saw my little visitor.
We keep our mower in a large garden shed in the backyard. Unfortunately, this little guy likes the spot, too, I guess.
He’s “just” a garter snake, but was much closer to my foot than I enjoy. Without screaming, I scooted away. When Andy came to see what I was doing, I bravely moved the mower a bit to show him. The snake then scurried into our shed!
I did mow the entire yard… except the spot right next to the shed. 
I mean, come on! The snake was at least 16″ long. He could have swallowed me in one gulp. 
I refrained from letting my fear get the best of me, but only because I do have little boys to train.

UGGHHHHH. your post gave me cold chills. We used to see snakes (poisonous) all the time in FL. I am terrified. Yes, 16″ could have swallowed you whole…along with the mower. Good thing you avoided it

Sorry, I would let Nate “train” the boys. I can hardley stand watching “them” on TV. Or frogs. Or spiders. Or, or, or.

I’m so proud of you for not screaming. Considering your self-control, you could be my tutor and do some sister-in-law training.
I actually don’t mind snakes much, but spiders get me every time. I have been able, with much training, to downgrade from screaming to gasping very loudly.
Next baby step: Swift inhale and smelling salts. Hey, it’s a goal.
