If you share a chocolate chip cookie with one of your children, is there a way to be sure they get the part with all the fat grams? Just wondered.

When your husband takes one child to the airport with him and leaves the others home, upset and jealous, here’s what you do:
Make them a baseball card using your expensive and professional graphic design software.
See?

The bad thing? It’s only May. What will I do the rest of the year when they’re bored? ![]()
As a teenager and college student, one of my favorite Bible passages was Psalm 37:4-5:
Delight thyself also in the LORD: and he shall give thee the desires of thine heart. Commit thy way unto the LORD; trust also in him; and he shall bring it to pass.
I remember having all of these wants, but desperately wanting to do the things that would please the Lord the most. I found this verse and took it to heart. By letting go of my own desires and turning to Him, He’d see to it that my needs and wants would be taken care of. I just needed to get out of the way!
I really wanted to find a great guy to marry. I always said, “I’d rather be single than settle.” Along came my husband, just months after I graduated from college. (Someday maybe I’ll share that story.)
I wanted to be able to be a wife and mother, but still get to do graphic design. I really wanted to use it as a ministry… To be able to help out missionaries and the like. My dream projects were prayer cards and cd covers. Now, I have enough of that kind of business to keep me busy! My husband recently said it could easily turn into a full-time job if I let it. (Alas, I’m a wife and mommy first!)
I wanted children, if God allowed it. Along came five babies in a little over five years.
And, selfishly, I wanted my kids to be Cubs fans and my sons to maybe play baseball. Well, just last night, all seven of us sat around eating a leisurely dinner of pizza and watching the Cubs game. You should have heard the cheers when they won the game… And the noise wasn’t all from me!
Above all, I wanted — and still do — to know that “my children walk in truth” 3 John 4). I see tiny evidences of their growth toward God everyday. May I be a help in that direction and never a hindrance!
God is faithful and His Word is true. Once I got out of His way, He worked everything out in my life. I’m so thankful. ![]()
My kids love waffles. I like to make the homemade ones in my waffle maker. My husband likes those, but still likes the frozen/toaster kind, too. So, we still buy them. My boys will eat either kind, but they’re messy.
Until now (insert infomercial voice here!)
I’ve thought of a way for them to eat waffles and syrup that’s not only cleaner, but easier for me to serve, too!
I simply cut their waffles into strips with kitchen sheers. They end up about the size of those pricier dunkin’ strips. Then I take empty baby food containers and put some syrup in each one. It ends up looking like this:
The boys simply pick up a strip, dunk and bite. Yum!
Those baby food containers work great for ketchup, salsa and ranch, too. Reduces double dipping.
That’s my deep thought for the day. Hope it helps. Check out Rocks in My Dryer for more great Works for Me Wednesday tips.
I just came up the stairs after tending to some laundry. Brady was holding a (old, no-longer-functional) cell phone to his ear, pretending to be deep in conversation.
I smiled at him as I moved around him and he tucked the phone under his chin as if he was going to tell me something. Here’s what he said:
“Mom, we need to find a school with good cell phone reception!”
Huh?!
My parents are both on vacation this week (off from work, anyway,) so they came up to visit for the extended weekend and to watch their two favorite baseball players’ games.
Nana was helping Connor get dressed and get his shoes on before Brady’s game. They were having a bit of trouble getting one of his tennis shoes on and he looked up at her and said, “Nana, we need a hammer!”
Resourceful, isn’t he? Thankfully the shoe went on without the help of any tools. ![]()
Apparently, my visitor has decided to stay.
That slithery “friend” I found last week was there again today when I got the lawn mower out. I sent him a very quick greeting and got out of there.
Here’s my question. Do all snakes hiss or just the poisonous ones? ‘Cause he greeted me right back.
Also, can a lawn mower be used as a weapon of self defense? I only wish it was already started.
As it stands now, he has had all his calls forwarded to the area around our shed and I’m steering clear. The rest of the lawn is nicely mowed, but I called Nate today to tell him he gets to mow around that area. I have enough little friends.
Nate agreed to try to get the snake to move on, but I’m sure it’s already had its mail forwarded.
Evan’s hair is just long enough to create a teeny-tiny pony tail on the back of her head. It’s scrawny and not really suitable for public viewing yet, but cute enough to amuse all of us at home.
Last week was the first time I put her hair up like that. Shortly after I had the holder in place, Brady walked in the room. I picked her up to show him the back of her head. I said, “Brady, look! Evan has a pony tail!!”
I kid you not, he looked down at her bottom!!
I could not stop laughing.
Apparently, though I often wear my hair in a pony tail, he didn’t know that’s what it was called. Guess he thought she had a real tail.
Goofball!
For about two years, we had a kids’ easel in our already small kitchen. I was constantly bumping into it and the kids climbed on it more than I care to admit. We were always running out of the dry erase markers for that side, so they really only ever used the chalkboard side.
In an effort to de-clutter, I decided to ditch the worn-out easel and simply paint the door from our kitchen to our basement with chalkboard paint. Voila!
Here’s the before (see the little easel on the lower right corner?):
Here’s the after:
The can of paint cost about $8 or $9 at Wal-Mart. It took about 15 minutes to clean and paint the door and then 24 hours for it to dry before you can use it. I’ve also heard the idea of painting the insides of cabinet doors so little ones have a hidden space to play. Open the doors while they play, then shut them for an instantly cleaned up space. Simple and so useful!
Not only did I create a fun space for the kids and a useful space for us, but I also made the space look a bit cleaner.
That works for me!

A single baseball card dropped in the toilet doesn’t flush as easily as one might think. ![]()
