“Find a Way or Make One”
At the top of our basement stairs, we have a Dutch door. We rarely shut the top half, but we keep the bottom closed for fear of a mobile baby falling down the stairs. The door has saved us from putting up one of those annoying gates.
The older boys are used to being told to make sure they shut the door all the way so we know it’s latched. We actually encourage them to slam it. It’s reassuring to us.
I’m downstairs now and Brady just started thumping down the steps. I called to him, “Brady, you’d better make sure that door is shut!”
He responded, “It is.”
“Honey, I didn’t hear it slam. Go check it.”
By this time, he was across the basement beside me.
“It’s shut, Mommy. ‘Cause I didn’t open it. I climbed over it.”
Hrmph. Guess he showed me. Crazy monkey.

Oh that’s funny! Kids and the things they come up with…don’t you love it when you don’t know if you should be angry, exasperated, or just laugh?
