Quick Learner
We own a Little League baseball instruction manual — probably from the late 80’s — that I bought at a garage sale last summer for a quarter. I bought it simply because my kids love and want to absorb any tidbit of information about the sport. I had no idea they’d love the book this much, though.
Andy has been sleeping with the book beside his bed for the past few weeks; I guess he plans to learn by osmosis, or learn to read just by its nearness. At any rate, last night, Brady wanted to look at the book desperately. He asked Andy nicely. Then he begged. He pleaded. He whined, “Andy, I just want to look at the baseball book. I need to learn about baseball.”
This scenario carried on for quite awhile before I stepped in and made Andy let Brady look at it. “He’s not going to hurt the book, he just wants to look at the pictures. Besides, I bought it for all of you to share.” He hates that word.
Andy relented and Brady began to slowly page through the book, examining every photo for details. After three or four minutes of this, he gingerly shut the book and proclaimed, “There! Now I know all about baseball.”
If only it were that easy…
