My kids have recently discovered hockey via the old Disney “Mighty Ducks” movies. They’re so intrigued. They started using their baseball bats for hockey sticks.
I made the mistake of telling them that when their Uncle Chad and I were younger, we used milk jug lids as our hockey “pucks.” (Never mind the scale issue… the shape is similar enough.)

I should have known better.
For days, up and down our hallway, we’ve had intense hockey games going on. Lucky for them, our hallway has hardwood floors… So, they put on their skates. What sort of skates work on hardwood? (I know you’re asking yourself this.)
Potholders.
Yup… line up a pair of potholders for each kid to scoot around on, give them their whiffle ball bats and throw in a milk lid. Hours of endless fun.
And, if the high-sticking gets out of control, you can always send them to the penalty box. ![]()
