As a Mom of four little ones (+ 1 in utero), I soooo wish I could go on strike like the Hollywood writers. I spent much of the end of last week and all day Saturday preparing for Evan’s first birthday “party.” (I say “party” because it’s just our families coming over after church for a big lunch and cake and ice cream.)

It’s over now, but my energy level is absolutely zapped.

I’d like one whole day of no diaper changing, no breaking up sibling fights, no laundry, no dishes, no cooking, no cleaning…. One whole day of laying in bed or in a bubble bath would be nice.

Now that I’ve typed that, though, I realize that this time last year, I had just that. I was in the hospital on bedrest and it wasn’t that much fun. I should clarify that I’d like my day off to be at home. My kids could be home, just quieter than normal.

Don’t get me wrong. I love being a mommy. I think I have the greatest kids in the world, too. I’m just more than seven months pregnant now and so dead tired. My poor husband works really hard and really long hours, too. (I’m sure he’d like a whole day off to lay in bed, too.)

All right, here and now, I’m making a pledge. When “Baby F” comes, I’m not doing anything but nurse that baby. I’m taking at least 24 hours off after he or she arrives. Got it?

Now I just have to make two more months to the due date.
