Treats for Tots
Around these parts, it’s a big deal to get to give our pet dog (a “Boxweiller”) a bone. She doesn’t get them too often, so if she’s being good and you happen to be the one nearby, it’s fun to give her the treat. They aren’t really bones, but a variety of different snaps that come in one box, made by Alpo. They’re square and thin, almost like a dense, colored Saltine cracker. Nonetheless, we call them bones for Dusty.
On a different note, I recently bought some Honey Maid Graham Sticks (to go along with that yummy cheesecake dip I made at Christmastime). Connor became a fanatic for the Sticks and wanted them after waking up from every nap. The funny part? He calls them “bones!” They have a similar texture, though they’re more rectangular than square.
For the first few days, he’d wake up from his nap and point to the cabinet and cry for “bones… Mommy, I want bones!” It took me awhile to figure out what he was talking about. When I put two and two together, I couldn’t stop laughing. I thought about making him sit or beg for one, but couldn’t bring myself to go that far.
The crisis around here is that we are now out of “bones” and I’m not planning on going to the store today. Guess he’ll have to settle for regular old kibble…
