Favorite food for a five-year-old

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

When your Mom is chronically pregnant, much of your world revolves (sadly) around food. This is what I mean:
For birthdays around here, I like to make each person’s favorite meal (if possible). Andy’s birthday was last week, so I made chicken-and-noodles, mashed potatoes and kale greens (YES, kale greens… we’re weird. We love any kind [...]

Adored

Wednesday, December 12th, 2007

Evan is nearly 11 months old and her newness has not worn off. That may seem like an odd sentence, so let me explain.
When she was born, we explained to her three big brothers — all of whom did not get to see her during her month long stay in the NICU — that they [...]

WFMW: Easy cleaning stove top

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

For those of us who don’t have those cool flat-surface stoves, cleaning the stove top can be a real pain. A friend of mine does this, so I stole her idea!
My stove has “plates” under the burners. I periodically cover those with foil. When things boil over (or my kids help me cook) and they [...]

Maybe he’ll work for Crayola

Tuesday, December 11th, 2007

Brady is just three years old. In the van today, he shouted to me in the front, “Mommy, what do you get when you mix blue and green?”
I tried to keep my answer simple.
“Um, bluish-green.” (Brilliant, I know.)
“N0000!” was Brady’s reply. “Aquamarine!”
I stand corrected. He may be only three, but his mommy is a graphic artist. ;)

Guess who’s having a special birthday!

Monday, December 10th, 2007

Someone special is turning out to be a whole handful today. Can you guess who?

Andrew Joseph is now five years old! He enjoyed a mini-birthday party with some church friends yesterday (one of their daughters was turning two).

Connor had lots of fun, too… even though he really missed his nap time and confessed “I sweepy.”

Here’s [...]

There’s more than corn…

Saturday, December 8th, 2007

… in Indiana. It wouldn’t really matter for us, though, because after more than five days without corn, Brady’s allergy symptoms haven’t changed at all. That leads us to believe corn isn’t the culprit. We’re thrilled to know that!
It’s rough because we still don’t know what he’s allergic to, but we’re glad it’s not corn. We [...]

Strange lookin’ pirate

Friday, December 7th, 2007

My boys were goofing off last night while I made dinner (homemade hamburgers and homemade french fries, just for Brady). The goofing off part isn’t new, of course. They were playing “bad guys” and stuff like that… remember, Daddy’s a police officer, so bad guys are an every day experience around here.
Somehow, Andy decided to [...]

Allergy Woes

Thursday, December 6th, 2007

Our little Brady has allergies. We’re not sure to what though. He has multiple
symptoms, but thankfully none as serious as anaphylaxis. The number of symptoms he does have, however, make me want to figure out the cause if for no
other reason than improving his quality of life. Poor guy.
He has eczema, a chronically stuffy nose, itchy [...]

Though the weather outside is frightful…

Wednesday, December 5th, 2007

Inside it’s so delightful.
The kids are in bed and Nate is working late on a police car-hijacking call. When he left to go to work at 5 p.m., it had not started snowing. There wasn’t even a lick of snow on the ground. (Don’t ask me how much a lick is… I don’t know.) Yet, [...]
