Adored
Evan is nearly 11 months old and her newness has not worn off. That may seem like an odd sentence, so let me explain.
When she was born, we explained to her three big brothers — all of whom did not get to see her during her month long stay in the NICU — that they had a very, very important job to do when she got home: protecting their baby sister. It took them awhile to learn what that meant, but before she came home, they knew that they would always need to take care of her and make sure nothing bad ever happened to her.
Her first few weeks at home were so cute. Each brother, but especially Andy, was constantly at her side, doting, trying to calm her, giving “instructions” to visitors. We just knew it would be priceless for awhile, then fade.
But it hasn’t.
Now she’s nearly 11 months old and those three big brothers of hers just don’t stop doting on her. We’re so blessed! They take such good care of her and are always wanting to help. They still fight over who gets to help and who gets to hold her. When she gets up in the mornings, they each have to say, “Good morning, baby girl!!” Her novelty just has not worn off. And like Marie with Donny and the other brothers, I hope it never does.
I want Evan to always feel secure in the fact that not only is Daddy always watching out for her, but so are three big brothers who have adored her from the beginning and have never, ever stopped. May she rest in that protection.

This photo of Connor holding Evan was taken just
a few days after she came home from the hospital
in February. Just this morning he wanted
to hold her and he kept petting
her head and saying, “How koot!” (cute)
