As Per Your Requests

I had a few comments about our wedding anniversary. Some of you wanted a photo. This is what we looked like on our wedding day, Nov. 3, 2001. Mind you, it was sunny and 72 degrees!

(This is what I looked like before children — 6 pregnancies ago!)

This is the fire truck that came to put help clear out the smoke. Here’s the deal. We only had a few candles for the ceremony. Nate and I both wanted simple. His Grandma had created some silk floral arrangements for the baptistry wall and had placed long taper candles in them. We had assigned my older brother Chad to light the candles at the very beginning of the ceremony. We, however, failed to assign anyone to blow them out. ;) Minor detail.

During the reception (which was in an adjoining fellowship hall), some people ran in and said, “The sanctuary’s on fire!” Really, only the flowers caught on fire and one of our ushers (who also happened to be a firefighter!), saw it and grabbed the fire extinguisher. He quickly put out the fire and pushed the flower boxes into the baptistry. The wall was a little charred. There was a LOT of smoke in the sanctuary. Otherwise, everything was fine.

The fire department was called immediately (before anyone knew the extent of the damage), so they expertly used large fans to rid the smoke. The reception cleared out faster than normal, but we’d pretty much talked to everyone already anyway.

We got lots of fun photos in front of the firetruck and with the firefighters. It made our wedding memorable. :) So, now you know the story. We always knew there was a spark between us!

I remember Aaron running past me outside yelling, “Tim! The baptistry is on fire!” Jon and I started booking it to the church just in time to see him put it out. What a day! Hey, at least you were married! That’s the important part. :)
