Lost in Translation

My son Andy thinks I’m incredible.

Well, he hasn’t used those exact words, but I’m sure he does. He thinks I know how to translate baby cries and coos. Seriously.

Every time Evan cries, he asks, “What’s Evan saying?” I generally know if it’s that she needs a diaper change or it’s time to eat, etc. He thinks I can understand her noises!

Someday soon, I’m going to answer his question like this:

“Oh, she’s wondering what impact the Biblical explanation of the flaming of the tongues at the day of Pentecost will have on our current situation, both spiritually and globally.”

Think that’ll throw him off?

Evan, Don’t worry. I have had that EXACT question. These types of existential and spiritual questions will come to your mind. You are wise to open these discussions with your mother early so as to develop a relationship that entertains the profound and deep things of life.
