Mommy’s gorgeous

For as long as Andy has been talking, I have been brainwashing my children. OK, not really, but I have — all in fun — taught them a couple of key phrases that helps keep things upbeat and silly around this house.

Andy didn’t really start putting sentences together until after his second birthday (Connor has way surpassed that), so for nearly three years, this can be heard around our house:

“I love you, Mommy. You’re the best. Mommy’s gorgeous. Daddy’s my hero!”

Please understand that I do not withhold anything from my children for not saying this. IT’S ALL IN FUN. There’s just something about a little two-year old trying to say “gorgeous” and “hero” that I can’t resist. :D

Our nieces have even caught on to the action and have tried adding things like, “Erica’s my favorite,” but those only really get repeated when the girls are around. ;)

At any rate, the boys generally only repeat the mantra when they want something or are trying to be silly. Like, when they want a cookie. I’ll be reaching for the jar and I’ll say, “What do you say?” I’m fully expecting a “please” when they launch into the schpeel. It always makes me laugh and the grandparents can’t believe we’ve gotten them to say something so long when they’re so little.

What really cracked me up was when Connor wandered over to my leg the other night while I was washing dishes. (No, we don’t have a dishwasher. Our house was built in 1951. Yes, I wish I had one.) He hugged my leg. I looked down at him and said, “I love you, Bo.”

The sweetest little smile crossed his face and he said (totally unsolicited!!), “I wove you, Mommy. You’re da best. Mommy’s go-guss. Daddy’s my he-ro!”

Melt a mama’s heart in less than a minute! :)

[...] In case it’s hard to read, it says, “Daddy is my hero.” Fits our family mantra. [...]
