WFMW: Easy “Labels” for Kids’ Cups

Once again, my Works for Me Wednesday tip this week is not about to revolutionize the world, but it may make things a bit easier for moms out there like me.

Recently, a friend of our family and a fellow pilot’s wife, Mrs. Kaiser, gave my three sons helicopter sport bottles. The boys, of course, loved them because they’re absolutely sure actual pilots use the exact same thing while flying Bell Helicopters (untrue). At any rate, they use these cups regularly now. They’re insulated, so they’re great for milk and stuff.

The problem?? They’re all identical. All red. Any mom of more than one kid knows that means one thing: fights. I initially tried writing an A, B, or C on the bottoms, but that got messy fast every time one of the boys tried to look for their letter.

So, I came up with this idea: You know those heavy-duty rubber bands that come on broccoli?? (I’ve also seen them on lobster claws, but I don’t buy that.:) ) I use those to color code their cups! Andy’s has a white band around it (see photo below), Brady’s has a blue and Connor’s is pink. Even not-quite-two-year-old Connor knows what color his is and doesn’t steal his brothers! Problem solved… which means many less fights for me to break up. Amen!

PS- I had just washed the cups and the insides were not quite dry in this photo. It’s not stuff growing in there… I promise!

Great tip!! I love the water bottles — I’m sure those are used by real helipcopters. :) Colored rubber bands is the perfect answer to this trouble.

    Thanks for sharing!

That’s great. My kids have water bottles too. All different colors and shapes and sizes. They still fight about who “moved” their water bottles though. lol
