The Sweetest Big Brother in the World
Before Evan ever came home from the hospital, I had lots of talks with the boys about what it meant to be a big brother to a little sister. (And since she was in the hospital for 29 days, we had plenty of time to talk.) They quickly learned that “protect” for them would mean always making sure she’s OK and taking good care of her — no matter what. This is a responsibility that all three boys have taken very seriously… more than we ever dreamed they would. In fact, we keep waiting for her “newness” to wear off. But it hasn’t.
Andy, especially, loves his baby sister. He dotes over her, plays with her, wants to hold her constantly, kisses her, and tries to tell everyone just what she needs. The other two do the same stuff, just not to the same degree. Here’s an example of Andy’s undying love for his baby sister Evan:
Tonight the boys wanted to watch one of their favorite musicals, Newsies. While the preview of Disney’s Cinderella played, Andy looked down at the floor where Evan was playing. He then looked at me and in a hushed voice said…
Andy: “Mom, can Evan not hear very good?”
Me: (thinkin, huh?) “No, buddy. She’s hears just fine.”
Andy: “Oh.” (Comes over to me and whispers in my ear.) “We need to get Cinderella for Evan for her birthday. OK? Can we?” (Backing away and raising his voice back to normal, he explains…) “Cause it’s for girls.”
Isn’t that too sweet? He’s just the greatest big brother to his baby sister!
This photo was taken the day after she came home from the hospital in February. She was just 30 days old here.

Brothers can be good things, right? Andy that was very sweet of you to think of your sister that way. Now don’t hit your brothers so often and life will be grand.
