Contemplating Homeschooling
Since before we were married, my husband and I have planned on homeschooling our children. There are numerous reasons for this, all of which I won’t get into now. The boys think this is sort of neat. Many of their friends and cousins are homeschooled. They actually ask “to do school,” which for now is simple preschool worksheets about letters and numbers and such.
After watching a recent episode of Blue’s Clues in which Blue has her first day of school, Andy said, “Mommy, when we’re bigger, will we ride a bus to school, too?”
Me: “No, remember, you are going to have school here at home with Mommy. Like Dale and Ty do with Aunt Sandy. She’s their teacher, remember?”
Andy: “So, the girls are teachers and boys aren’t?”
Me: “No, not always. Some men are teachers. I’m sure Daddy will teach you guys some, too.”
Andy: “No, he can’t read the words.”
I tried really hard not to laugh. Apparently Daddy can fly helicopters, shoot guns, defend the citizens of the community, instruct pilots and read story books, but he can’t read the two sentences of instructions at the top of a preschool worksheet.
Yup, I’m the smart one. ![]()
