Daddy’s Little Girl
I knew my husband would be a bit different with a daughter than he has been with sons. They’re totally different… so why wouldn’t he be? But, what I didn’t realize was that she would be different toward him, even at just six months old, than the boys.
When we had her, (albeit nine weeks early) her gender was a surprise – just like our other births. So, when she came out to a whole team of doctors, I had to ask, “Was that a girl?!” “Is it a girl?!” We knew our lives would never be the same!
Fast forward to today. Evan likes me OK. I’m sure she knows I’m her source of nourishment… but that’s about all I’m good for in her eyes. Her world revolves around Daddy!
Last night, I was nursing her in our bedroom when Nate came home from work. She heard his voice (he was giving commands to his police k-9 Sirus) and she literally stopped nursing and started “yelling” for her Daddy. It sounds much like baby squawks or maybe hushed dolphin sounds, but she’s getting very vocal and she uses it to try to get Daddy’s attention. It’s too funny.
I used to think I might be jealous of the bond between my husband and any daughters, but I’m not at all. I think it’s downright adorable. It’s just one more reason (#503) that I love him so much. He takes very seriously his role of protecting his little girl.
So do her big brothers, though… (She may never get married!)
