When I grow up

Wednesday, July 25th, 2007

When I was a kid, I wanted to be a librarian. After all, they got to read all the latest books first, right? In middle school and early high school, I actually wanted to be a lawyer. (All of you who know me are snickering right now, huh?)  Then, in my junior year, I was [...]

The Rolling Machine

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

While we were getting our pictures taken today (see previous post), I realized that I don’t have a real nickname for Evan yet. Andy has several, including (but not limited to,) Hoss, Stanley and Scoochy Poochy. Brady is Beauregard and Pigpen. Connor is Bo, BoBo or Sugar Booger. Also Con-man. Oh, and all three of [...]

Picture Day!

Tuesday, July 24th, 2007

We just got home from our semi-annual picture day! We take lots of photos of the kids at home, but about twice a year we try to get them done professionally. We tried a new place today called Portrait Innovations. They did a great job. They were very patient with our four little ones and [...]

True love

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

I know I’ve been posting a lot, but as I said before, my kids crack me up. They just keep saying things I want to remember. For instance…
The boys are having an afternoon snack since our dinner will be a late one tonight. Andy gingerly came to me and asked very politely, “Mommy, can I [...]

Hitting!

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

I got my haircut this morning. On my way home, I called Nate to tell him I would be there shortly. He tells me, “Connor’s been hitting.”
Me: “Again? Did you tell him no?”
Nate: “No, he’s hitting with the bat! He’s hit three in a row!”
I told you baseball was a way of life for us.

Baby talk

Monday, July 23rd, 2007

Remember how at around 7-9 months, babies can start to put syllables together? “Dada” or “Mama” never sounded so sweet! (Connor was the only one so far to say Mama first, by the way. And that was only after extensive training on my part.)
Now flash forward to present day. Connor is now 21 [...]

So, that’s why they call it ‘headquarters!’

Saturday, July 21st, 2007

Tonight, my handsome husband Nate took our four-year-old son Andy to the police department. That’s where Nate works, but Andy hasn’t actually been inside since he was an infant. The sheer joy of seeing where Daddy works had him all excited.
They had just returned home, and Andy was estatic. He said, “Mommy, there was a lot [...]

Lots of little ones, part 1

Saturday, July 21st, 2007

To me, four kids isn’t a lot. To me, maybe 20 will seem like a lot. Or, maybe somewhere between four and 20 will strike me as a LOT. But I don’t think four is an exceptionally large family. Other people do.

You cannot imagine the number of times a week I get asked any of [...]

Baseball at our house

Saturday, July 21st, 2007

Every morning, I hear two things in order without fail. The first is: ”Mama, can you make us breafkiss?” Once the boys have eaten, they start saying, “Mama, will you pitch to me?!”

See, aside from family and church, baseball is a constant in our house. Daddy’s police schedule has always been wacky. His flight schedules are [...]

He’s all mine…

Friday, July 20th, 2007

Do you ever look at two people and wonder just how they ended up with each other? Well, my handsome husband Nate and I have a neat story to tell. But that’s for another day. I just want to leave you wondering.

Here he is after a recent church service. Just remember, he’s mine. ALL mine. [...]
